A wedding at Canterbury Castle in Lake Orion MI.

This was an incredibly fun wedding for Kylie and Joshua at Canterbury Castle in Lake Orion Michigan. We started out at the chapel for our getting ready photos. The couple did not want to see each other before the service, however we were able to get some really pretty pictures of the dress as well as some photos of the groom and his attendants. The bride came out briefly for a couple of shots before the service up front.

A story about me getting antiquated with the groom.

Joshua is a military man and we appreciate and thank him for his service. A couple of his fellow soldiers also attended. We made a point of expressing our gratitude to all of them. I remember the first time I talked to Joshua and it was a story worth recounting. He picked up his phone and things were pretty calm for about the first 2 minutes of our conversation and then all of the sudden all hell broke loose. I heard popping sounds in the background and the sound of men scrambling and a lot of hollering, “Get down, get down!”. Josh came back on the phone and said “I can’t talk right now.” and hung up the phone. I was in shock and worried sick for about a day.

He called me later and told me his platoon was in a training exercise and waiting around when all of a sudden things started happening fast around him. He said it was a live fire training session and they never quite knew when the combatants were going to spring on them. It turned out to be a really funny story and we had a good laugh out of it later.

The wedding came off without a hitch, I love the emotion on Joshua’s face when Kylie came into the room. It was a very touching moment and we all felt it. The service took about 20 minutes I think and all attention in the room was fixed on the couple. It was such a pretty service.

Post service family photos and shots around the grounds.

After the service they went outside as the guests applauded before we made our way back in for a few family photos. We made a few key selections here that we thought you might enjoy. Our goal is to try and get through the family photos in about 15 or 20 minutes and a well-organized group can certainly make that happen. All the guests then made their way over to the reception for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The couple and the bridal party hung back and we made our way around the grounds for some really nice shots before being introduced into the Hall.  (continued down the page.)

Looking forward to the future.

The Reception in a beautiful banquet room at Canterbury Castle.

As with most receptions, it’s all about the fun and the celebration of this couple starting their journey in life together. A delicious dinner was served by the staff at Canterbury Castle. They do an amazing job with their food and their presentation and overall service. It’s one of our favorite places to work. We always hear great feedback from clients after an event held at this very special spot.

After dinner, the couple wanted to do their first dance in the lobby of the banquet hall. I remember when this first took off with a wedding we shot here during COVID. Because of the COVID distancing requirements, the couple thought this would be a good way to have guests watch their first dance but maintain a distance. Angela at Canterbury asked us for a picture of this moment and has displayed it in her office. I understand the tradition caught on as more and more people saw the photo and wanted to replicate it. This couple felt the same and we got a really pretty series of pictures of their first dance.

Night Shots and outside.

They of course then made their way back into the main room for dancing and play and fun for the rest of the night. At one point the little girls in the bridal party were playing down in the lobby. I took the opportunity to line them up and take a really stunning picture of the girls. They were so excited and we went back upstairs to show their mothers. Everyone was excited and we really had a good time.

Later in the evening around sunset we went outside for a lovely series of photos around the grounds. It was a pretty evening and we had lots of good opportunities for stunning night shots. We hope you enjoy these images and wish our couple the very best life has to offer. It is our hope that when clients see our work and are planning a wedding in the future, they call us and consider us to play a role in their wedding.
