Getting Ready for the service.

Kristen and Matthew’s wedding took place on a beautiful spring day. The bride and her ladies met up at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Livonia Michigan. They were getting ready for the service later downtown at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. It was a gorgeous event and what a beautiful bride. We spent about time taking photos of Kristen and her ladies in the room and around the property. After about an hour or so, everyone gathered up their things and headed downtown for the wedding.

The service took place at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit Michigan. This is the seat of the bishop for Southeast Michigan. Blessed Sacrament is one of the most beautiful churches in our area. It was a full Catholic Mass. The Catholic mass is an old tradition and one of the only sacraments that is not conducted by the priest. Is actually conducted by the couple. It was an absolutely gorgeous event. Our role is to document the service without attracting attention away from the couple. The center of focus must remain on them, our role is to find interesting angles and record this beautiful sacrament.

After the service and a few family photos, we headed out into the city for some photographs. We stopped at the Detroit Institute of Arts for some shots as well as a few others around the city. We then headed out to Livonia for the reception. It was going to take place at St Mary’s Cultural Center in Livonia Michigan. This is one of the most beautiful spots in that part of town. They have a fabulous reputation for good food and good service.

The couple danced and played until the wee hours. Their first dance was very memorable, the lighting and the ambiance in the room was gorgeous! Again, our role is to watch and record in interesting ways what we are seeing. Not overdrive and direct a wedding but to record it. This style of photojournalism is key to our work.
