Meeting up for the first look on Belle Isle…
A cold fall day in Michigan is how this wedding went down. The service took place at the Detroit Historical Museum. The couple wanted to do their first look at Belle Isle Casino. The couple arrived in separate vehicles with their entourage. Colby was waiting on the Canadian side of the building while Jeanette brought her crew in from the other side. The first look went off seamlessly and was quite an emotional moment for both of them as well as their children and family.
Back toward downtown Detroit and the Historical Museum…
It would be my guess that we spent about 40 minutes around the island doing photos of various combinations before we headed back downtown toward the Detroit Historical Museum. It was cold but without much wind. The Detroit historical museum is located on the opposite corner from the DIA. There is a tiny theater in the historic museum where the guests were gathering for the service. It was a great little space to get married up on the stage. Afterwards we moved right into the reception.
The reception was held under the star-lit ceiling in the atrium. It’s a really stunning place to have a wedding and reception. There are so many unusual things in the background that as we photographed, it made the area look so interesting. Dinner was served at the Detroit Historical Museum and a couple of fine toasts were offered up to the couple.
The party at the Detroit Historical Museum…
It was quite interesting that the food service for this event was a barbecue food truck outside the building right there next to Woodward. It was a fabulous idea and the food was amazing! It reminded me somewhat of a wedding I shot a couple of years ago at Detroit Fleet in Royal Oak. I’ll link to that wedding here.
After the dancing was kicked off and well underway, the couple wanted to go back out for some night shots back across the street in front of the DIA and the Detroit Library. I think we spent about 10 minutes walking around and the guests were no wiser that the couple wasn’t in the room. If the party’s well underway, you can break away without anyone really even noticing as long as you don’t take too long and have a good plan in place.
Looking forward from here…
We wish them the very best life has to offer and really enjoyed watching them merge their two families together on this beautiful evening in Detroit. We’re excited to see their wedding album design. Will link up to it when it’s ready.
