The service…
When you think of the perfect winter day to have a wedding this had to be it. Erin & John picked some fantastic spots for their wedding. The service was at Annunciation Cathedral Greek Orthodox Church Detroit. It was a Detroit Athletic Club wedding reception. We met up before the service for a first look and then we were off to photograph around the city. I am not sure how this happened but they managed to get access into Comerica Park for some very unique photograph opportunities.
Downtown and party…
We then got down around the Renaissance Center and the water front. It began to softly rain then turned to the most beautiful snow falling. It was one of the most romantic evenings I have ever seen and the outside shots at night were just gorgeous! The Detroit Athletic Club put on a fantastic party for the couple, it was perfect in every way and we really enjoyed shooting this one!
A side note and a funny story…
This had one of the strangest video crews I every worked with on this job. It was a crew of about 5 guys that ran the show like a movie set. I recall having gone over the details for the day with Erin before the wedding and had a good plan. I think we were both very surprised the day of the wedding when the video guys kept yelling “Cut! We need to shoot that scene again.” It took us both off guard and I just switched over to an almost total photojournalist approach to my shooting.
Those guys latterly tried to run the wedding like a movie set. It all worked out great in the end but I don’t think the couple nor the family had any idea what they were getting into when they hired the ‘film crew’. I have never seen that group again since, I am going to guess that the total take over of an event approach didn’t work out very well for them in the long run.
I am glad to have gotten some great shots of the Erin & John that day and loved the couple so much. We wish them the very best and we can’t wait for our next Detroit Athletic Club wedding!
