The call for this wedding anniversary party…
We received a phone call that was very exciting for us to take. Dona and Paul were celebrating with a Wedding Anniversary Party for their 70th anniversary and, it was taking place in just a couple of weeks out. It was going to be the immediate family with the children and grandchildren to celebrate the 70th anniversary and renewal of vows for the couple.
The event planner was absolutely fantastic in getting us the details we needed before the event so when we arrived plans were being laid and set up was underway. We managed to get a few detail shots to show some of the beautiful decorations around the tennis court. What a perfect spot for an event!
Words were spoken…
Several toasts took place; the adult children had some beautiful things to say about their parents and the contributions they had made to their upbringing. Family was clearly the center piece here. After toasts and before the luncheon, they cut a gorgeous little cake. I had been shown an old photograph of their original wedding cake cutting ceremony. The goal for us was to try and duplicate that original moment 70 years ago as best we could. It was a very touching event.
During the Party…
During this Wedding Anniversary Party several other people got up to talk and share stories including some of the grandchildren. Lunch was served and everyone enjoyed the meal very much. The food was prepared by A Movable Feast out of the Ann Arbor area; they are amazing & probably the finest in my opinion! They took such care with the food preparation and with covid-19 social distancing, and they were respectful of the rules.
After lunch we all gathered again for some family photos. We were wrapping up when Paul pulled an old black and white picture out of his wallet of his bride of 70 years. It’s so much fun to see a couple still in love after all this time. They are so respectful of one another, and they are respectful of their family.
Some Thoughts…
The event was very emotional and I enjoyed so much being a part of it and seeing it firsthand. So often I photograph weddings where the couple is just starting out on their journey together and I see things at the beginning of their relationship. This was an amazing event for me to think about what it would have been like to have been at their wedding 70 years ago. In a way it gave me a very deep sense of purpose. Seeing the picture that Paul pulled out of his wallet made me realize just how important the images I take each season are for families.
We all hope for a legacy where our life’s work is of value to others. This is a testament to pursuing that goal in my life. We wish them the very best and thank them for letting us photograph their wedding anniversary party and letting us be a part of their event this past fall.
